Banke's Saiyapur emerging as trekking destination
Banke, Oct 27: Saiyapur area in Raptisonari Rural Municipality, Banke, is gradually gaining recognition as a trekking destination. Its short uphill trails and beautiful scenic views are attracting both domestic and international tourists.
The area is enhanced with various natural features, including waterfalls, and caves, as well as panoramic views of Nepalgunj, Narainapur, and several cities in neighbouring India. It lies in half an hour's walking distance from Nepalgunj, said local tourism entrepreneur Sriram Sigdel.
The route is rich in bio diversity and features a unique blend of natural beauty, local culture and religious heritage. However, he said, the local government has yet to pay its attention to developing physical infrastructure needed to promote tourism.
In view of Sigdel, encouraging tourists visiting Nepalgunj to extend their stay and explore Saiyapur could help boost local tourism. Expanding homestay facilities and improving infrastructure, he added, would make the area more attractive to visitors and create economic opportunities for local communities.
Situated at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, Saiyapur is among the highest areas in Banke's Chure region. It is also home to religious sites such as Garud Baba and under-construction the Mahakaleshwor Temple.
Saiyapur's relatively cool climate is another reasons the area attracts visitors.
The area can be reached from Nepalgunj via various means of transport via Bheluniya village in Phattepur.
Jungle Safari available in Banke National Park
Jungle safaris have been launched in Banke National Park. According to park official Bigyan Oli, safaris have now been available all five routes within the park and both domestic and international tourists can explore the park area to observe wildlife, forest, and experience its natural beauty.
Krishna Tharu, operator of the Gabhar Valley Homestay, said tourist arrivals here have begun to increase following the availability of jungle safaris. The park, home to Bengal tigers and other rare wildlife, is increasingly attracting visitors. Four jeeps are available for the safaris and visitors may have the time to spot various wildlife, including Bengal tigers, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, sambar deer (Rusa Unicolor), and wild boars.
